Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues to dominate the box office, but behind its success lies a fascinating casting story. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has revealed that Akshaye Khanna was not the first choice for the role of Rehman Dakait.
Rehman Dakait Role Was Rejected by Multiple Actors
In a recent interview, Mukesh Chhabra shared that the casting process for Dhurandhar 2 was far from easy.
According to him, several actors were approached for the role of Rehman Dakait, but many turned it down. The main reason was hesitation about being part of a multi-starrer project.
Interestingly, after the film’s massive success, some of those actors reportedly reached out again, expressing regret over rejecting the role.
Akshaye Khanna Came On Board at the Last Moment
Akshaye Khanna eventually came into the picture much later in the casting process.
Chhabra revealed that when he first approached the actor, Khanna was surprised and initially unsure about the offer. However, after hearing the narration, he quickly changed his mind and agreed to take up the role within a day.
The casting director also mentioned that Khanna fit the character naturally, without requiring heavy cosmetic changes or physical transformation.

Mukesh Chhabra on His Casting Philosophy
Mukesh Chhabra, who has worked on over 300 films in a career spanning more than two decades, emphasized that his focus has always been on choosing the right person for a role rather than chasing popularity.
He explained that even if an actor is not conventionally “perfect” in terms of performance, he prioritizes whether the actor fits the character organically.
Chhabra also dismissed the growing trend of casting based on social media popularity, stating that he still relies heavily on auditions rather than online metrics.

Casting Took Two Years, Over 200 Actors Selected
The scale of Dhurandhar 2 demanded an extensive casting process.
Chhabra revealed that he and his team spent nearly two years casting the film, selecting more than 200 actors for various roles. This effort contributed to building a layered and believable world within the film.
He also highlighted the casting of Sara Arjun, praising her audition performance. A key emotional scene featuring her character confronting Ranveer Singh’s character stood out and convinced the team instantly.

R. Madhavan and Others Joined Quickly
While some actors were hesitant, others came on board almost immediately.
R. Madhavan reportedly agreed to the project without delay after hearing the narration. His performance, marked by restraint and control, has been appreciated by audiences.
The film also features a strong ensemble including Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal, adding depth to the spy thriller’s narrative.

Casting Emerges as a Key Factor in Film’s Success
With Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge crossing massive box office milestones, the film’s casting has emerged as one of its strongest pillars.
From last-minute decisions to unexpected choices, the casting journey reflects how crucial the right selection of actors can be in shaping a film’s impact.
As the film continues its historic run, the behind-the-scenes stories only add to its growing legacy.
