Vijay Sethupathi and filmmaker Manikandan are reuniting for the Tamil web series Kaattaan, also known as Muthu alias Kaattaan. The series is now set for its OTT premiere, and expectations are high among fans of intense rural dramas.
This marks Manikandan’s return to direction after his 2023 film Kadaisi Vivasayi.
A New Turn for Manikandan
Kaattaan is described as a rural action drama, signalling a shift in Manikandan’s filmmaking style. Known for emotionally grounded and socially realistic films like the National Award-winning Kaaka Muttai, the director now steps into the action genre for the first time.

While his earlier films focused on subtle storytelling and everyday struggles, Kaattaan promises a more intense, action-driven narrative set in a rural backdrop.
For Vijay Sethupathi, the series is expected to showcase him in a fierce and raw avatar, adding another distinct role to his diverse filmography.
OTT Platform and Release Date
The makers have confirmed that Kaattaan will begin streaming on March 27 on JioHotstar. The series will be available in multiple languages, aiming for a wider reach beyond Tamil audiences.
The platform is also expected to roll out character posters and a new teaser in the coming days to build momentum ahead of release.
Gandhi Talks Begins Its Digital Run
Meanwhile, another Vijay Sethupathi project, Gandhi Talks, has officially entered its OTT phase. Directed by Marathi filmmaker Kishor Pandurang Belekar, the silent film is now available for rent on Amazon Prime Video for a limited period.
The film will also stream free for subscribers on ZEE5 starting March 6.

Featuring Arvind Swamy, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Siddharth Jadhav alongside Vijay Sethupathi, the film stands out for its dialogue-free storytelling style. The background score is composed by Oscar-winning musician A. R. Rahman.
Although Gandhi Talks did not meet box office expectations due to its unconventional format, the OTT release is likely to help it find a wider and more receptive audience.
Vijay Sethupathi’s Strong Digital Presence
With Kaattaan gearing up for release and Gandhi Talks already streaming, Vijay Sethupathi continues to maintain a strong presence across platforms. The coming weeks will reveal how audiences respond to these contrasting projects, one rooted in rural action and the other driven by silent storytelling.
