Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece is officially moving forward. Following the impressive reception of its second season, the streaming platform has confirmed that a third season is in development, with the story now heading into the widely loved Alabasta Saga.
Showrunners Matt Owens and Joe Tracz have teased that the next instalment will be the most ambitious chapter of the series so far. With the scale of the story expanding and the stakes growing higher, Season 3 aims to bring one of the franchise’s most important story arcs to life on screen.
The new season will continue the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates as they travel deeper into the unpredictable world of the Grand Line.
The Alabasta Arc Takes Centre Stage
Season 3 will focus on the Alabasta Arc, a storyline that holds a special place in the original manga and anime. In this arc, Luffy and his crew join forces with Princess Vivi in an attempt to prevent a devastating civil war in the desert kingdom of Alabasta.
The conflict arises from a carefully planned scheme by Crocodile, the powerful leader of the secretive organisation Baroque Works. Through manipulation and deception, Crocodile attempts to destabilise the kingdom by fueling rebellion and worsening a drought that threatens the region.
As tensions rise across the desert nation, the Straw Hat crew must navigate dangerous territory, face powerful enemies and uncover the truth behind Crocodile’s larger plan.
The storyline is known for its intense action sequences, dramatic confrontations and emotional storytelling. Fans can expect battles across vast desert landscapes, high-stakes races and clashes with the elite agents of Baroque Works.
In the original manga by Eiichiro Oda, the Alabasta Arc spans chapters 155 to 217. For the live-action series, this portion of the story is expected to translate into roughly eight episodes packed with major action and character-driven moments.

Production Underway for the New Season
Production for One Piece Season 3 reportedly began in late 2025 in South Africa. Interestingly, filming started even before the premiere of Season 2 in March 2026, highlighting Netflix’s strong confidence in the series.
The show’s creators are planning a larger production scale for the upcoming season, particularly because the Alabasta storyline involves extensive visual effects, large battle sequences and new environments.
Given the complexity of the production and the heavy use of CGI required for the world-building and action scenes, the new season is likely to arrive sometime in mid to late 2027.
The release timeline would follow a similar gap between the first two seasons, allowing the creative team time to develop the ambitious visuals that the story demands.
Straw Hat Pirates Return
Season 3 will bring back the core cast members who portray the Straw Hat crew.
Iñaki Godoy returns as Monkey D. Luffy, the cheerful pirate captain whose dream is to find the legendary One Piece treasure. Mackenyu will again play the skilled swordsman Roronoa Zoro, while Emily Rudd returns as navigator Nami.
Jacob Romero Gibson reprises his role as the inventive storyteller Usopp, and Taz Skylar returns as the charismatic cook Sanji.
These actors have been central to the success of the live-action adaptation, with fans praising their chemistry and ability to capture the spirit of the beloved characters.

New Characters Join the Adventure
Several characters introduced in Season 2 are expected to play larger roles in the upcoming storyline.
Charithra Chandran continues as Princess Vivi, whose kingdom becomes the focus of the Alabasta Arc. Mikaela Hoover also returns as the voice of Tony Tony Chopper, the Straw Hats’ reindeer doctor.
Joe Manganiello joins the story as the powerful antagonist Crocodile, while Lera Abova appears as Nico Robin, also known as Miss All Sunday. Sendhil Ramamurthy will portray King Nefertari Cobra, Vivi’s father and the ruler of Alabasta.
Season 3 will also introduce additional characters from the One Piece universe. Actor Xolo Maridueña is set to appear as Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s older brother, whose fiery abilities and strong bond with Luffy play a major role in the story.
Cole Escola will portray the eccentric assassin Bon Clay, while Awdo Awdo and Daisy Head will appear as the Baroque Works agents Mr. 1 and Miss Doublefinger.
These additions expand the world of the series and introduce new challenges for the Straw Hat Pirates.
A Bigger Adventure Ahead
Season 2 concluded with the crew setting sail toward Alabasta after their victory at Drum Island. As they continue their journey, the story hints at even greater threats lurking in the vast seas ahead.
Fans familiar with the One Piece universe know that the Alabasta Saga marks a major turning point in the narrative. The arc deepens the emotional bonds between the characters while also expanding the scale of the story.
Themes of loyalty, friendship and sacrifice become central to the journey as Luffy and his crew fight to protect a kingdom from destruction.
As Netflix pushes forward with Season 3, the series continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most successful live-action adaptations of an anime property.
With larger battles, new allies and powerful enemies on the horizon, the next chapter of One Piece promises an even bigger adventure for fans around the world.
