Bhooth Bangla — A Nostalgic Return To Vintage Horror Comedy
A Priyadarshan film then must be reviewed taking into consideration its hospitable blend of old-school slapstick humour, atmospheric horror elements — a combination that has served Hindi cinema with cult hits in the past.
Against a backdrop of crumbling, folklore-steeped mansion and characters caught in supernatural crossfire, the film centers on who wants that moment to be all their own. The “bangla” in the title is an ancestral estate believed to be haunted, with secrets buried inside its walls. What starts as a routine visit slowly descends into a chain of eerie but humorous encounters with restless spirits, secret passageways and macabre turns.

Famed for his ability to walk a tightrope between humour and tension, Priyadarshan has made sure that the film credits practical effects, situational comedy and character-driven maelstrom instead of just jump scares for his scares. The story goes all the way to classic haunted-house stories but has a modern twist of satire, misunderstandings and supernatural mischief.
The tone channels elements of Priyadarshan’s previous comic instincts as it draws on a darker, more textured environment, making it both nostalgic and new.

A Reunion After 14 Years
Bhooth Bangla reunites Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, responsible for some of Hindi cinema’s finest comedies. Their reunion after over a decade together has raised the stakes for fans who associate the duo with a sharp comic timing and ensemble-induced mayhem; a sixth season of “Community” is on its way, if you’ll recall.
